Help for users of screen readers and other accessibility software

Access Keys

We have implimented a simple access key list for the most important areas of our website. You may also simply Tab your way through page links from top to bottom, then activate a link by pressing Enter. To activate an access key in Internet Explorer use: Alt 1 then Enter (the number 1 here represents the access key number). In Firefox use Alt Shift 1.

Navigation

Tips

  • Use the Tab key to navigate through page links from top to bottom, then press Enter to activate the hyperlink
  • Use the Access Key list above
  • Use the Skip Link located at the top of every page which skips over the top menu and takes you directly to the main content of the page
  • Use access key 4 to place keyboard focus on flash content

Design

Our website is designed using Cascading Style Sheets and will gracefully downgrade to a text only version if you are using a text browser like Lynx


Multimedia (images, video, audio)

As much as possible, we have implimented accessibility aids into video, audio and .PDF resources however, the settings of your accessibility device or software will produce a more clear and consistant result. Long descriptions, ALT text and titles are also implimented for images and video where practicable.
